Wine routes, adventure routes in Strelcha

With its well-built infrastructure and convenient geographical location, Strelcha is a starting point for routes in Sashtinska Sredna Gora, which lead to famous natural and historical sites: Panagyurishte, Koprivshtitsa, Hisarya, Karlovo, Vlak peak, Barikadite peak, Bogdan peak, Zhaba Mogila, Kamennata prikazka (en: The Stone Fairy Tale), Krepostite (en: The Fortresses). On the territory of the municipality, there are many tourist itineraries with a duration between 1 and 6 hours. There are 7 eco-trails built, which are also used for mountain biking.

Shambala passenger cable car

Shambala passenger cable car – provides quick and easy access to the Central Balkan National Park. It provides an opportunity to practice your favorite sport – tandem flight over the slopes of Stara Planina and over the Rose Valley. The Sopot lift offers a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere for a holiday close to nature.

It is often used as a starting point for more important pedestrian tourist routes in Stara Planina, that are on the territory of the Sopot municipality.

The villages of Seltse, Slivito, Banzareto, Darzhaven, Yavorovets, Borushtitsa and Raduntsi (Municipality of Maglizh)

The villages of Seltse, Slivito, Banzareto, Darzhaven, Yavorovets, Borushtitsa and Raduntsi (Municipality of Maglizh) – High in the Balkan there are beautiful places, such as the villages of Seltse, Slivito, Banzareto, Darzharven, Yavorovets, Borushtitsa and Raduntsi. In the latter, nearly a century ago, after nearly two years of research by Knyaz Ferdinand's team, one of the best places in terms of air composition for the treatment of broncho-obstructive diseases was discovered.

Routes in Sashtinska Sredna Gora

For lovers of mountain biking and hiking, there are excellent opportunities and routes in Sashtinska Sredna Gora:

  1. Hisarya – Voden Kamak hut – easy and pleasant route for beginners with 7 km of  asphalt pavement at 360 – 450 m altitude;

  2. Hisarya – Fenera hut – mountain terrain with a length of 22 km and at 360-1400 m altitude;

Starosel Complex for wine and SPA tourism – located at the foot of the historic hill near the village of Starosel where the largest Thracian cult centre was opened in 2000. Byala Reka Eco-trail – Kalofer

Byala Reka Eco-trail – Kalofer – One of the most visited attractions in Kalofer is undoubtedly the Byala Reka eco-trail, constructed along Byala River (bg: Reka). The trail itself will offer you an incredible walk among the impressive natural beauty of the Central Balkan National Park. The trail is not too long and is suitable even for unprepared tourists, as it is only 1.83 km and has enough places to rest. The eco-trail starts northwest of Kalofer, just after you pass the Kalofer Male Monastery.

Mountain resort of Panagyurski Colonii (1040 m)

Mountain resort of Panagyurski Colonii (1040 m) – 16 kilometres from the town of Panagyurishte is the famous mountain resort of Panagyurski Colonii (1040 m), founded at the beginning of the 20th century as a place to relax and strengthen the health of children from the Panagyurishte area. The air there is rated as extremely healing for lung diseases. There is a ski slope for beginners with a ski lift at Panagyurski Colonii.

Paraglider flight location

Mount Sinilka, Sliven – A paraglider flight over Mount Sinilka reveals the contrast between the untouched mountain nature and the arable fertile fields in the area. As soon as you arrive at the starting point to the west, you can see a stunning view of the Blue Stones Nature Park. A hotel complex and one of the symbols of the town – the television tower – can be seen nestled between the rocks.

Ski slopes near Kazanlak

Ski slopes near Kazanlak – the ski slopes around Mount Buzludzha are located at about 1441 meters above sea level, and the facilities themselves include five lifts. The course has varying degrees of difficulty and unfolds in a wide meadow, so there is no risk of getting lost and going off the track. The upper part of the track around Buzludzha hut to the intermediate station of Buzludzha hut is suitable for children and beginner skiers. The good visibility and slight incline of the track make it preferred for children's and ski competitions.

Svetitsata Eco-trail (Svetishka trail) – Shipka

From the existing "yellow-white" Bosilkovec trail leading to the Buzludzha hut, two more trails diverge to the left.

In the Krasta area, next to the shooting range, the blue-white Svetishka trail starts and from the Orehova Polyana, along a bridge, across the Selska River, past the Vilite, through Tamnata Gora, Rechitsa, Razklonnata Polyana and Gabraka, it reaches the healing reservoir "Svetitsata" /70 min. from the Center of Shipka/.

The Katunite route

The Katunite route passes between the rivers Kameshtitsa and Malka Reka. You will be able to enjoy part of the majesty of Buzludzha, and the end point will be the Katunite rocky heights (1284 m above sea level). This trail is the most difficult and it takes about 3 hours. A beautiful beech forest takes you to the Ashka plain, near the Visoka Mogila peak, and when you reach the white stones, you climb to the Katunite to the east. There is a picturesque panoramic view in all directions.

The Atovo Padalo trail

The Atovo Padalo trail passes along the ridge of the Stara Planina mountain reaching the Atovo Padalo peak – 1494 m, where you can see the incredible panorama of all the wind generators. The time it takes to cross the path is about 2 hours and 30 minutes. The Atovo Padalo path will take you to an asphalt road to the former stables. To the west, there are the ski slopes, which attract hundreds of winter sports enthusiasts every year. After the sharp turn and after about 20 minutes, you will come out in front of the entrance to the wind park, where a picturesque view opens up.

Enina gorge

The Enina Gorge Protected Area covers an area of 11.8 ha. It is part of the land of the village of Enina, Municipality of Kazanlak, and falls within the "Kamenshtitsa" reserve. It covers the left and right slopes of the Eninska river bed. Crossing the river bed is a real challenge, revealing the wild beauty of the canyon. In the gorge itself, several alpine tours and the Via ferrata (iron road) have been placed. A long-standing marked alpine route was discovered on the site, and in 2011, 2012 and 2013, new routes were equipped that are actively used for sports purposes.

Kokalana Cave

The cave and the area take their name from the many bones of the victims of the Russian-Turkish war. The entrance to the cave is near the forward positions of the defenders of the Shipka Pass during the Russian-Turkish Liberation War of 1977-1978. Also named by the Gabrovo cavers  after the commander of the defence of the pass and of the Bulgarian volunteers, General Nikolay Stoletov.

A panoramic road from the village of Gorno Izvorovo to the peak of Zhalti Bryag is the highest, most beautiful and important, in terms of hydrography and orography, Stara Planina peak above the Kazanlak villages of Gorno and Dolno Izvorovo. Alongside its wonderful natural sites, such as pastures, springs, dense forests and deep valleys, it is also distinguished by its pleasant pyramidal appearance, as well as its exquisite oval outlines.

Path through the centuries: Kazanlak – Buzovgrad – the Megalith / Thracian sanctuary

This is one of the best organized eco-trails in the municipality of Kazanlak. The starting point is the town of Kazanlak, and the village of Buzovgrad is 5 km away from the town. A sign in the centre shows the distance to the destination and points of interest along the route. From the Megalith itself, the view is amazing: the whole valley is like in the palm of your hand, to the north – Stara Planina with Mount Botev, to the west – the Koprinka dam. The megalith is an ancient Thracian settlement of rock formations with an opening through which the sun passes at sunset.

Cycling in the Valley of the Thracian Kings

Are there many places in Bulgaria, and in Europe, where you can ride a bike in a valley rich in Thracian tombs? Kazanlak has a plan to become such a place. The town has a built-in network of bicycle paths that covers some of the nearby villages, as well as a path between the Rosarium park (with the Rose Museum) and the Tyulbeto park. In the latter, the Kazanlak Thracian tomb is located – part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Rosé Wine Expo in Kazanlak

The traditional Rosé Wine Expo attracts the interest of the many guests of the Rose Festival in Kazanlak. Over the years, the Rosé Wine Festival has established itself as the most significant wine event for the region of Kazanlak and the Rose Valley and enjoys the attention of major wine producers.
