The objective behind establishing the Patlejina reserve was the preservation of the only natural habitat of wild carob in Bulgaria. It is located 6 km south of Veliki Preslav. There are several historical monuments in the area: the St. Panteleimon Patleina Monastery, remains of a monastery church, and craft workshops from the time of the First Bulgarian Kingdom - the end of the 9th and the beginning of the 10th century.
