'The Palace' was once summer residence of the Romanian Queen Maria Alexandrina Victoria de Edinburgh (1875-1938). It is situated about 2 km southwest of Balchik in a beautiful area between the Balchik cliffs and the sea. It has the status of an architectural monument of culture and a monument of horticultural and park art declared by the Ministry of Culture with Decree No. 09-128 of 18.04.2002. The residence was designed by the Italian architects Amerigo and Augustino in 1924. It has beautifully arched terraces along the steep sea shore, through which water from two springs flows in special stone channels and overflows into water mirrors and waterfalls. The style of the new buildings is in keeping with that of the old ones, and the old mills have been restored. The contrast of white cliffs and red roofs, characteristic of the town, was also preserved. There are chapels, courtyards, parks, fountains and buildings in different styles: typical Bulgarian, Byzantine, Roman-Arab, Moorish, Transylvanian, etc.
