According to legend, in 1197, to remember his victory over the Crusaders in the battle near Maglizh, King Kaloyan donated funds for the construction of a monastery. The Maglizh monastery is a complex of a church, residential and farm buildings, as well as two chapels – Sts. Petar and Pavel and Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel.
Of interest are the cell-museum of Vasil Levski, restored in 2018, in which the Apostle founded one of the eight revolutionary committees in the region of Kazanlak, and the cell in which the monastery school was located. The oldest item kept here is a censer with a Greek inscription dated 1233 – the time during which Tsar Ivan Asen II reigned (reign period 1218-1241). This connects the history of the monastery with the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1185 – 1393).
