This desert-like rock phenomenon is an outcrop of Eocene sands, among which are upright stone columns resembling a stone forest. The striking landscape of the battered stones can be seen in seven large and several smaller outcrops. The most famous is the Centre-South group. It is located 18 km west of Varna. It consists of about 300 large and small stone columns, up to 6 m high, situated mainly south of the old Varna-Devnya road.
