The only reserve in Bulgaria including a water area, a sea area and at the same time covering the surrounding cliffs and a small river. Bolata is a narrow ravine cut into the coast next to a former military zone, through which a small river flows. At the point where it flows into the sea, a lagoon mouth is formed. Via Pontica or one of the main migration routes for migratory birds passes above the area.
