The Augustiada festival of wine and cultural heritage – Stara Zagora

The festival is named after Augusta Traiana — one of the ancient names of Stara Zagora. An impressive part of the legacy of this period are the floor mosaics that decorated private homes and public buildings. Among them, the “Dionysian Procession” mosaic stands out with its magnificent colors — a unique work of an ancient master builder in praise of the God of wine and joy, testimony to the preserved traditions associated with this drink since ancient times.

The festival of wine and cultural heritage promotes the cultural and historical heritage of Stara Zagora and emerges as a leader in the wine calendar of Bulgaria. Augustiada is a meeting of wine producers, representatives of the food industry, connoisseurs of wine, gastronomy, and cultural heritage. Traditionally, during the event, a competition is held to choose the Augustiada Queen.

In the autumn of every year in Stara Zagora, the best wineries of Bulgaria meet, culinary products are presented, and wineries from the other Balkan countries traditionally participate as well.
