The first written records of Razlog date back to the time of the Byzantine Emperor Basil II. A visit to the city provides the opportunity to get to know more than 41 residential buildings of the Razlog and Chepina Revival architectural type, having the qualities of cultural monuments. Petrich Petrich is the southernmost city in Bulgaria. It was founded in the 5th-6th century BC under the name of Petra in the Rupite Area, where the Church of St. Petka of Bulgaria – the temple of Baba Vanga, is located.
The whole region is very rich in mineral springs. There are three national resorts in the municipality: Momin Prohod, Vili Kostenets and Pchelinski Bani. Landmarks in Kostenets and the surroundings are: burial mounds, mound necropolises, hot mineral springs, Trajan's Gate fortress, St. Michael the Archangel church, St. Spas Monastery, St. George the Great Martyr temple and many more.
Dupnitsa is nestled in the skirts of Rila and is divided by as many as 4 rivers: Dzherman, Bistritsa, Otovitsa and Dzhubrena. The City, as the people from the whole area call it, has a special rhythm and life. The urban plan of the central part has preserved the Revival idea of intersecting streets reaching a common centre with five corners.
Bansko is the largest winter resort in Bulgaria, offering its visitors wonderful conditions for ski tourism. Bansko remains an attractive destination all year round.
The city is located in close proximity to the southwestern slopes of the Rila Mountains, in the valleys of the Struma and Blagoevgradska Bistrica Rivers.
