Koprinka Dam, Municipality of Kazanlak

The dam is one of the most beautiful Bulgarian reservoirs, located along the Tundzha River, 7 km from Kazanlak. It can be reached by car, bicycle, and even on foot, because the distance takes no more than 2 hours of slow walking. It is an attractive destination for fishermen, nature lovers and fans of water sports. The place also offers a variety of opportunities for vacations and family excursions. The beautiful views and the fragrant pine forest make it a favourite place for walks. The variety of options makes it suitable for family excursions and vacations with a large company. Everyone can find what to do without getting bored.

In 1947, the then Ministry of Construction began to build the renewed project and completed it in 1955. Foremen, an international construction team, and Russian specialists were involved in its implementation. The dam was actually the second one built in Bulgaria, after the Rositsa Dam.

During the construction of the Koprinka Dam, the Thracian town of Seuthopolis was excavated and fully explored. The town was located on an area of about 7 hectares. Even in ancient times, a large part of the walls and facilities were destroyed in many places; the town was looted and destroyed centuries ago. Coins, ceramics, implements and an inscription were among the preserved finds, which is a sworn contract between prominent representatives of the Odrysian and Macedonian ruling classes.
