Kozloduy

Having existed as a Thracian settlement centre, this part of the Danube banks was enlivened by the proximity to the big Roman Danube road that passed by, as evidenced by the ruins of the Roman castles Regianum, Kamistrum and Augusta.

Kozloduy is a town deeply connected to the name of great Bulgarian revolutionary Hristo Botev. "Tranquil, white Danube trembles, jolly drubbing. And Radetzky proudly sails, upon resplendent waves," wrote Ivan Vazov. Today, a replica of the Austro-Hungarian steamship Radetzky, with which Botev's cheta (armed group) descended on the Bulgarian shore, is moored in Kozloduy and welcomes tourists as a ship museum. The Botev Park Historical Area offers a combination of sites of historical value related to the path of Botev's cheta and the Bulgarians' adoration of its feat and numerous opportunities for recreation on the eco trails and places for relaxation and bird watching, fishing, etc. Also, during the Days of Botev celebrations, the town also hosts numerous events.
